My Journey

My name is Luke Drakes and I have been training for over 20 years and at 39 years of age myself, I still love to do it to this day.

(This may a long read, but bear with me, and hopefully by reading it you can get something out of it.)

As a person that really isn’t into social media, I need to open up and get used of it, especially in this day & age and in this industry. I get nervous & anxious about promoting myself, but I know it’s all about content in these current times we live. Though I’m just not like that, even though most people and my friends may know me as loud, extroverted & confident, organised and honest with a hard work ethic. I’m not into posting any pics, videos or any personal stuff about myself, unless it’s for my current business. But I have come to the conclusion that I have to get out of my comfort zone, with expressing myself more, and I understand that it’s something I need to do, to show you the person you’re going to trust your training to. So I hope by bringing you this, you can go out of your comfort zone and start your training with me and make it a healthy routine of your life going forward.

So I hope this helps people realise that I’m here to provide guidance, in what I believe are my best personal traits of hard work & organisation, to let them create their own journey into the health & fitness world, and show you that anyone can become a fit & healthy person, or sustain a fit & healthy lifestyle no matter what their current self may be.

So let’s get into it!

After recently completing my Personal Training Course, I started to develop a niche fitness program for those that want to stay fit & healthy, or just for people that want to get into shape.

This was all kicked into action when a close friend of mine passed away a few years back, via physical and mental health problems, and a group of our close friends got together soon after, via the Black Dog Institute, and we did a month of hard training as a group to help each other through it and raise awareness for mental health issues. Still to this day it was the best thing I have even done, and I am still in contact with the Black Dog Institute. I still think about my friend a lot.

Community is also a big part of my business and talking to people in our local area to get a feeling of how people perceive Training, Health & Fitness provided me with a good bearing on how to push forward with this concept.

I also never forget family & friends that helped me along the way, and shout out to a couple of particular mates (the only 2 friends) that I shared this concept with the last year, that gave me some great guidance in this space with their experience of business and the industry. They suggested different ways to approach it and instilled confidence in me to have a go at it, so I appreciate that.

It’s a tough industry, it’s early mornings & late nights, so you have to live & love what you do, and I can say I have, and continue to do so in this line of work.

The saying go’s “Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life”! This rings true for me in this profession, and even though it’s taken me a while to start it off officially & professionally, I’ve really been on this journey and enjoying it for over 20 years.

I’m very passionate & dedicated about this space; this is why I am doing it.

Training is a great way to express yourself, by working hard for yourself and with others, to help guide you and push you along your way. It can change your life and build self-esteem.

I am also acutely aware that fitness it’s not the be all & end all, as you can definitely be happy without fitness in your life, but for me it sustains a good lifestyle and it will help with mental & physical well-being.

The stresses and changes of day to day life can be varying, so this concept was born from that, staying fit & healthy is as important as any.

When stress and ‘life’ gets in the way we tend to stop thinking of ourselves as much and don’t look after ourselves from a physical point of view at this time, and something like this, that keeps up your health & fitness at a reasonable level with help your mind & body.

Fitness & Training is a journey.

Health & fitness does not need to be a chore, it really is a lifestyle, that is enjoyable & fulfilling, and rewarding for both yourself and the people around you.

Yes, it is hard work, but most things are if they are worth doing. It will make you happier & your life will change because of it. So let’s kick off something together that you can look back on, and say ‘I’m glad I jumped into this and got out of my comfort zone’.

Believe me, you’ll be better for it!

Dedication & work ethic, then intelligence on how to maintain it and knowing your own body is critical.

In my current line of work there is something that’s always rang true to me - ‘a plan isn’t a plan until it’s on paper’, so even though all this information has been in my head for a long time, it’s nothing to anyone but me until I write it all down. So hopefully sharing this personal content with you, and you reading it, and maybe even sharing it to others inspires you and them to commence, whether it’s simply just starting your health & fitness training journey with me at Fit For 40, or other things in life that you strive for, I hope it can inspire you & others towards setting a goal and achieving it.

I’ll put in what you put in, so let’s do it together.

Training - I, We, You.

Thank you for your time.
